Coal Chemistry Europe – The story behind the rebranding
In 2023, Coal Chemicals Europe decided to become Coal Chemistry Europe. While the change may seem small, it – in fact – aligns very much with the ambitions of the association to support the objectives of the EU Green Deal. This change in name comes at a time when the EU Green Deal is laser-focused on achieving its net zero objectives by 2050, and we wanted to showcase more clearly the role we can play in that process: more active, more engaged, more innovative. This is a testament to the evolution (not revolution) of our group, by showing we are an active partner for circular solutions.
It is in fact the chemistry – not the chemicals – that gives their added value to our products. By converting by-products of steel production into valuable new products, coal chemistry enables innovation that empowers major industrial sectors and supports critical future technologies like fuel cells and batteries.
We wanted to highlight the proactivity and innovation of our industry, our ambitions to promote resource efficiency, enable CO2 savings, and support strategic autonomy objectives. This is better shown through “chemistry”, an innovative, creative and ever evolving discipline, rather than by “chemicals” themselves, which can be interpreted as more static and passive.
